Improved Confidence Intervals for the Youden Index

The Youden Index is a summary measurement of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for the accuracy of a diagnostic test with ordinal or continuous endpoints. The bootstrap confidence interval based on the adjusted proportion estimate was shown to have satisfactory performance among the existing confidence intervals, including the parametric interval via the delta method. In this ar...

Graduates' Employment Forecasting

In The continuously increasing enrolment of higher education has created some employment problems. It is very meaningful that we scientifically forecast and analysis the graduates employment trends. Based on the basic principle of Grey Model with First Order Differential Equation and one Variable (GM(1,1)) and Power Function x   Transformation, in this paper, a new Variable Weights Buffer Fir...

Model Confidence Sets for Forecasting Models

The paper introduces the model confidence set (MCS) and applies it to the selection of forecasting models. A MCS is a set of models that is constructed such that it will contain the ’best’ forecasting model, given a level of confidence. Thus, a MCS is analogous to a confidence interval for a parameter. The MCS acknowledges the limitations of the data, such that uninformative data yields a MCS w...

Improved confidence intervals for quantiles

We derive the Edgeworth expansion for the studentized version of the kernel quantile estimator. Inverting the expansion allows us to get very accurate confidence intervals for the pth quantile under general conditions. The results are applicable in practice to improve inference for quantiles when sample sizes are moderate.

Forecasting: Expectations, Intentions, and Confidence

All three articles in my dissertation gather information from individuals, analyze it, and aggregate that information into forecasts of upcoming events. The motivation is to make forecasts more efficient (accurate and timely), more versatile (provide the most useful information for each stakeholder), and more economically efficient (equally or more efficient and versatile for less time and/or m...
